My Quilts

Quilts and bits of future quilts I have made

It turns out I love doing hand appliqué with batik fabrics.  This is a sort of Hawaiian appliqué in that it is traced, basted, and then needle-turn appliquéd.

Traditonal Hawaiian appliqué generally consists of symmetrical designs that are cut out first and then basted and needle-turn appliquéd.  Elizabeth Root offers original and traditional patterns at Quilts Hawaii She has beautiful books of patterns for sale and offers lots of free tips on her website.

My two-fabric hand appliquéd Bird of Paradise

A sampler quilt I made in Sandy Bonsib's beginning quilt class.
I was working in a fabric store after having retired from my "real" job.

First try at echo quilting by hand.

In 2007 Yvonne, Leslee, and I challenged ourselves
to make a block a week,
all six-inch pieced blocks with no appliqué.
Seven years later I've still got half-a-dozen blocks to go.
Pineapple
Mariner's Compass
Radiant Star

The 2012 Bunny Hill free pattern was Dresden Plates.
You may notice another pattern developing?
Failure to complete projects? Hm?
Another "work in progress", a "bunny hop" for Easter.
It's my first try at wool appliqué, which it turns out I enjoy.

A project I completed, yaaay! It was a present.
A different birthday pillow took a bit longer--
started in 2006 finished in 2007.

A "quilt" I made for myself
in the shape of a tote bag
The next three quilts are all New Year's Day "Mystery Quilts" presented by Merry Mayhem.  Of the three years' worth TWO are completed.
Started January 2008
Completed September 2012

This one is completed.
Another challenge from 2007,
a block a day from a quilting calendar.
The top is assembled but not yet quilted.
An orphan block intended for a New York Beauty  quilt

The start of my "Seeing Stars"quilt from a
pattern by Shelley Lynne Robson
Seeing Stars: 16 Quilted Projects
This is going to end up a very big quilt.
A future "primitive" quilt. These three
appliquéd blocks were designed by

Robyn Pandolph.

Front and back of a pillow I made for my ol' buddy.
It is based on a Rie Munoz print of the fisherman.
and a Storm at Sea block, naturally.
